Source Notes

Sy Scholfield quotes from Frederick I: The Man and His Times by Linda Frey and Marsha Frey (1984), p. 24: "Frederick, the third son of the great elector and Louise Henriette of Orange, was born at Konigsberg on Wednesday, 11 July 1657 at nine AM;" and from another book, The Present State of the Universe, Or an Account of I. The Rise, Birth ... of All the Present Chief Princes of the World (Randall Taylor, 1694), p. 25: "Frederick III. the present Marquess of Brandenburg, great Chamberlain of the Empire, and Elector, Duke of Pruffia, &c. born at Nine of the Clock in the Morning, July 1. anno 1657." Two dates are given, 1 and 11 July, but they are the same as the first is a Julian date and the second a Gregorian date.
