Biography
American athlete, he won two gold medals at the 1968 Summer Olympics and set a prestigious world record of the tour of the track (defeated by Reynolds 20 years later) in the 400 m event, helped by Mexico City altitude. A member of the Black Power movement, he co-founded the Olympic Project for Human Rights.
Evans had a stroke and was hospitalized in Lagos, Nigeria. He died on 19 May 2021 at age 74 in Lagos, Nigeria.
