Biography
American Olympics athlete in field and track events, he won a Gold Medal medal in the 200m event at the 1968 games in Mexico City. At the medal ceremony, he and his teammate John Carlos, gave a Black salute and received great publicity for their actions.
Smith was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1978.
