Biography
Belgian politician, who served as Prime Minister during 1912-1917 and 1932-1934. A member of the Catholic Party, he opposed the military plans of King Albert I for strategic reasons and because of Belgium's neutrality in World War I. When he lost his majority in 1917 he had to resign in 1918, but on the whole he was six times a minister. After the war he received countless prizes.
He was married to Berthe d'Huart. He died on 5 September 1940 in Brussels at age 79.
