Charles Ulm (1928)

Biography

Australian aviator who partnered with Charles Kingsford Smith in achieving a number of aviation firsts, serving as Kingsford Smith's co-pilot on the first transpacific flight and the first flight between Australia and New Zealand.

He left Oakland, California, USA on 3 December 1934 and was lost at sea. His plane went down the following day, on 4 December 1934, east of Hawaii Before his unfortunate death, he flew with Commander Smith on the first America-to-Australia flight in 1928. In addition, he was known for his brusque manner and was married to a teacher.
