Biography
German painter and caricaturist of Italian descent, often compared with Heinrich Zille, as he liked to take the motifs for his drawings from the specific milieu of the apple cider taverns, Sachsenhäuser Apfelwein-Schenken. His caricatures and pictures of Frankfurt personalities can still be found today in numerous museums. His estate is administered by the Frankfurt Institute for Urban History.
His circle of friends included renowned Frankfurt artists such as Wilhelm Altheim, Fritz Boehle, Cefischer, Mateo Cristiani and Georg Mahr. Salini portrayed numerous artists when they were guests in Frankfurt, including Heinrich George, Clemens Krauss, Paul Wegener, Fjodor Schaljapin, Arturo Toscanini, Beniamino Gigli, the clown Grock and Joachim Ringelnatz.
Most of his works were lost in an air raid on Frankfurt in March 1944, which also completely destroyed his studio in the high street.
Salini died on 20 December 1944 of severe kidney disease.
