Biography
Spanish painter, the best known of the Basque Country. Most production focuses on Basque issues, and his style is almost photographic realism, which made him a renowned portraitist; among his commissions include Alfonso XIII, Queen Maria Cristina and a wide range of personalities of the time. On 15 May 1944 he reads his inaugural speech as academician of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, entitled The History box.
He died on 14 July 1952, while working restoring the painted ceiling of the church of San Francisco el Grande.
