Biography
German surgeon and orthopaedist who dealt with medical aspects of piano playing.
The son of the Protestant theologian Albrecht Ritschl, he earned his medical doctorate in 1887 at the University of Göttingen. As an assistant doctor, he went to Freiburg and habilitated in 1891 for surgery. There he founded the Institute of Orthopaedics, which he headed until 1924. In 1896 he became ao. Professor, and in 1920 honorary professor. He then directed a private institute.
He died on 6 January 1945 in Freiburg, aged 83.
