Biography

Dutch nobleman, businessman, sportsman and top executive, the last family member, by marriage, who sat on the board of the electrical company Philips. He was the successor of his brother-in-law Frits Philips.

He started his career in 1934 as a commercial employee at Philips. After fulfilling various management positions within the company, Van Riemsdijk became a member of the board of directors of Philips in 1963; five years later he became vice chairman of the board. Three years later he was appointed chairman of Philips, a position he held until 1977. Van Riemsdijk spent his entire working life at Philips. In 1977 he was appointed chairman of Philips; Nico Rodenburg succeeded him as chairman of the board. Until 1986 he served as chairman of the supervisory board of Philips.

In 1938 Henk Van Riemsdijk married Jetty Sandberg-Philips (1906-2007), the youngest daughter of Anton Philips (1874-1951). She was a widow for the second time with two small sons. Henk van Riemsdijk died in Waalre on 8 November 2005 at age 94.
