Biography
Brazilian economist, teacher, painter, artist and businessman, well known as the co-author of more than twenty books, mainly in the area of economics.
He graduated in Public Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas in São Paulo (1979), and in Economics from USP, and holds a master's degree in Public Administration and Government from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (1991; dissertation on The quadruple taxonomy of the inflationary process), a master's degree in Political Science from State University of Campinas (1999; dissertation on Dependency theory and the theory of inertial inflation), a PhD in Communication and Semiotics from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (1996; thesis on Rhetoric and theory in the history of economic analysis in Brazil) and a PhD in Business Economics from Fundação Getulio Vargas (1998; thesis on Two Economic Theories: Consumption and Rhetoric).
He was a full professor of Economics at PUC-SP, and is a professor of economics at FECAP, Fundação Escola de Comércio Alvares Penteado, and the School of Business Administration at FGV. He is also a visiting professor at the University of Buenos Aires.
An associate of important Brazilian economists, such as Bresser Pereira, Luiz Gonzaga Belluzzo, Pérsio Arida (rhetoric in economics), Paulo Gala, Gabriel Galípolo and Guido Mantega, he is co-author and organizer of more than twenty books, mainly in the area of economics, among which Brazilian Economy (Saraiva) and Inflation Theories (Peace and Earth) stand out, which are part of the bibliography of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as the mandatory bibliography for access to postgraduate courses in economics of the National Association of Postgraduate Centers in Economics - ANPEC.
As a businessman, José Marcio Rego was a mill owner in Mato Grosso do Sul, an industrialist in Brazil (NLF Hidroválvulas), Metalúrgica Frenoflex, Almag, Aluminio do Brasil, Pignatari Forjados, Paraguay (Buspar) and Uruguay and one of the pioneers of Proálcool. He was a founding partner of two Investment Banks and a Commercial Bank, later incorporated by the former Banco Real.
