Biography
French socialist politician who served as Prime Minister of France from 18 December 1932 to 31 January 1933. In 1932 and 1934 he was Minister of Defence, in 1936 Minister of State, and from 1932 to 1934 and in 1938 Minister of Foreign Affairs. As his country's representative to the Fédération Internationale des Ligues des Droits de l'Homme - of which he was president from 1948 to 1972 - he participated in the formulation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. In 1961, he was decorated as a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour. He died on 28 March 1972 in Paris at the age of 98.
