Biography
Portuguese soldier, the most decorated of World War I, earning him the nickname "Soldado Milhões" ("Soldier Millions", for being "worth a million men"). He was the only Portuguese soldier awarded the highest national honour, the Military Order of the Tower and of the Sword, of Valour, Loyalty and Merit on the battlefield instead of the usual public ceremony in Lisbon.
Aníbal Milhais was a farmer. He died on 3 June 1970 at age 74 in the village named after him.
