Biography
Brazilian politician affiliated with the Progressives (Portuguese: Progressistas, PP), a centre-right and conservative-liberal political party. Currently deputy governor of Bahia (2015-), he is a former mayor of Lauro de Freitas (1989-1992), and a federal deputy for five terms. He served as Secretary of Infrastructure of the Government of Bahia (August 2009-March 2010), and as secretary of the Civil House of the municipality of Salvador, Bahia (February 2011-March 2012).
In June 2015, João testified to the Federal Police in Brasilia about his alleged involvement in the Petrobras corruption scheme, known as "Petrolão", investigated by Lava Jato.
