Biography
American writer and activist for American Indian rights. La Duke is the daughter of a Russian Jewish mother and Ojibwa father. Her mom taught art at the University of Oregon. Winona earned her Bachelor's degree at Harvard in native economic development, and her Masters in rural development from Antioch University. She is a member of the Mississippi band of the White Earth Anishinaabeg who lives on the tribe's reservation in northern Minnesota. She had authored several books and is one of the nation's foremost Indian activists, as well as working as an economist and environmentalist. She addressed the United Nations when she was 18.
Winona has two kids from a previous marriage and an infant born in early 2000.
