Biography

Italian physician and surgeon who founded the first centre in his country for women and minors affected by sexual violence. His autobiography In viaggio con Marco e i suoi fratelli (Travelling with Marco and His Brothers) was published in 2022.

Born the younger of twin brothers, he moved with his family to Milan in 1940, where he experienced the serious hardships of citizens during World War II. In 1942, he was evacuated to Ponte in Valtellina to escape from the aerial bombings, especially at night, on Milan. In 1944 he was transferred to Varese, given that in the close vicinity of Ponte the Fascists had begun to build trenches, anti-tank ditches and fortifications for the final defence: the Ridotto Della Valtellina. The days of liberation followed, and a return to Milan.

The family's house had been destroyed, the four children scattered among friends and relatives. From Middle school, he attended scientific high school, earning a degree in medicine and surgery, then military service in the Folgore paratroopers.

He worked as a surgeon in several hospitals. As a Councillor for Social and Health Services of the Formentini Council, in Milan, he created, among other things, the first centre against sexual violence against women and minors in Italy. Finally, as a Councilor of the Pio Albergo Trivulzio, in Milan, he pushed for the creation of a University Campus in an old building of the Martinit (Milanese orphans assisted by the Municipality).

As a doctor, he saved, with external cardiac massage, three citizens, affected for different reasons, from cardiac arrest. Giacomoni practised various sporting activities up to the age of 78.
