João Faustino

Biography

Brazilian professor and politician whose 2012 autobiography Eu Perdoo ("I Forgive"), recounts several events in his life, such as the murder of his father, his work as the head of the Amnesty Commission and his involvement in the operation Sinal Fechado.

Militant in the student movement, he became president of the State Union of Students of Rio Grande do Norte. He graduated in Pedagogy and Mathematics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, where he became a full professor. He earned a post-graduate degree from the Getulio Vargas Foundation and the University of Michigan.

He was the first director of the former Federal Technical School, now Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN). Between 1979 and 1981 he presided over the Union of Scouts of Brazil.

In 2008, he published the book A Escola que vivi – memórias de um educador, in which he recounts the history of the Federal Technical School of Rio Grande do Norte.

He died on 9 January 2014, aged 71, in Natal.
