Biography
American homicide, a serial rapist and molester, stalker and sexual exhibitionist and finally, a killer of two young girls.
His first murder was that of 12-year-old Tina Marie Harmon whom he abducted on 28 October 1981 and whose body was found five days later. He scrubbed her to excessive cleanliness, burned her with candles and strangled her. On 17 July 1982, he abducted 11-year-old Krista Lea Harrison. Her body was found a week later, on 23 July 1982, strangled, sexually attacked, burned with candles and scrubbed clean.
Buell was captured but not convicted of murder. He was sentenced to 121 years for 16 counts of rape and abduction using a gun as a weapon.
At 21, Buell had enlisted in the navy where he learned to be an electrical engineer. He had an honorable discharge in 1965. He married on 20 October 1962; one daughter was born on 15 February 1965. He changed careers, starting as a loan officer and assistant grant specialist on 24 November 1974 in the planning department rehabilitation program at Akron, Ohio.
In August 1978, Buell was arrested for public indecency and in October he was convicted of disorderly conduct. After public service, on 9 January 1980, his record was expunged.
In August 1981, a stranger fondled a 13-year-old Doylestown girl who identified Buell from a picture file. In October 1981, Harmon disappeared. On 23 March 1982 an Akron woman was abducted at knife-point from a mall, robbed and sexually assaulted. She identified Buell. In July 1982, the second girl was found dead.
On 30 September 1982, a 26-year-old women in Barberton was abducted at gunpoint and taken to a field where she was raped and sexually assaulted: she identified Buell. On 1 March 1983, several girls, ages 12 and 13 were approached by a man with a gun; they screamed and ran away; they later identified Buell.
The police were informed of Buell's address on 8 March 1983 by an anonymous call in Doylestown but were not able to apprehend him. On 10 May 1983, Jeromesville, a man approached two young girls. A witness took the license plate of the car and it was registered to Buell's ex-wife.
On 22 May 1983, a 29-year-old woman was abducted in East Liverpool, held hostage and sexually tormented for three days by Buell at his home address. In June 1983, he began his stalking in Medina (all locations in Ohio) and he was finally picked up by the police.
He was executed by lethal injection on 24 September 2002 in Ohio.
