Biography
American economist who served as the president emeritus of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, serving as its president from 1988 to 2006. From 1972 until 1988, he was the president of Princeton University. In 1994 he founded the digital library, JSTOR.
Bowen was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1973 and a member of the American Philosophical Society in 1978.
Bowen was married to Mary Ellen Bowen and had two children. He died on 20 October 2016 in Princeton, New Jersey, aged 83.
