Biography

German fiction and non-fiction writer who published novels and novellas and worked as a journalist for newspapers and magazines. She spent almost three years in Berlin, where she moved in 1897, in the editorial office of the llustrierten Frauenzeitung (Illustrated Women's Newspaper) and Modenwelt.

She was the only child of the manufacturer Friedrich Kilburger. She received a full education and in 1875 married Dr. A. Eysell. The marriage ended in divorced after 18 months. From 1879 Blüthgen worked as a painter, interrupted by illnesses. She trained as a portrait painter at the Royal Art School in Berlin and in the studio of Gottlieb Biermann (1824-1908) and in the studios of Otto Kirberg and Ferdinand Brütt in Düsseldorf. When a humorous travelogue she penned was published around 1890 causing a positive response, she devoted herself to writing and published her own works as well as articles in newspapers and magazines.

On 25 August 1898 in Berlin she married the poet Victor Blüthgen, with whom she moved to Freiewalde an der Oder. Her husband died in 1920 and was buried there. Clara Blüthgen died in Berlin on 24 January 1934 at age 77.
