Biography

French musician, singer, and founding member of the Bordeaux punk group Camera Silens (1981-1986). After participating in a robbery on 27 April 1988, he lived in hiding in Portugal and Spain between 1988 and 2016, then returned to France to surrender to justice.

On 16 November 2016, Gilles presented himself to the French justice system, in order to come out of hiding. The trial of Gilles Bertin opened on 6 June 2018. He risked a sentence of 20 years imprisonment. He was finally sentenced to five years in prison, suspended due to good behaviour.

In February 2019, Bertin published an autobiography, Trente ans de cavale, ma vie de punk. On 7 November 2019, Gilles Bertin succumbed to AIDS after spending several weeks in a coma. He was 58.
