Biography

American filmmaker, an actor-turned-cameraman until cataracts on both eyes forced him to change his venue to producing, screenwriting and directing. He worked in the genres of westerns, spy films, action adventures, crime thrillers, detective dramas and musical westerns. He directed nearly 90 'B' flicks that ran from The Pecos Kid (1935) to Cop Hater (1958). He also produced nearly 80 films between 1933 and 1958. Berke died on 15 February 1958 in Los Angeles at age 54.
