Biography
French conductor and musicologist of Portuguese-American descent.
He was the conductor of the Portuguese Radio in Lisbon (1957–1960), Stuttgart Philharmonic (1962–1964) and Opéra National de Paris (1965-1967), principal guest conductor of the Houston Symphony (1969–1971) and music director of the Orchestre philharmonique de Nice (1971–1978).
He made numerous recordings, specializing in French operas.
He died of liver and lung cancer on 18 February 1997 aged 69 at Pittsburgh, USA.
