German physician considered a pioneer of modern brain surgery. In 1889, he introduced a new surgical technique, the Wagnerian operation, in which an osteoplastic skull flap formed from bone and fascia, also called the Wagnerian flap, could be reloaded after the procedure. He died on 6 August 1900 in Königshütte, aged 52.
