Prince of Piedmont Vittorio Amedeo

Biography

Italian royalty, the eldest son of Victor Amadeus II, Duke of Savoy and his French wife Anne Marie d'Orléans. He was the heir apparent of Savoy from his birth and as such was styled as the Prince of Piedmont. He acted as Regent of Savoy from September 1713 till September 1714 in the absences of his father. He died of smallpox at the age of 15 on 22 March 1715.

Alle hore 19 e meza in ponto facendo il sole pompa de suoi raggij havendo la luna fatto il giorno avanti alle hore 5 di notte il primo quarto Madama la duchessa alla sudetta hora ha dato alla luce un Prencipe che segli e meso nome Vittorio Amedeo con gran giubilo di tutta la Città del Stato, et alla sera tanto la Città che Cittadini hanno messo al Palazzo, et alle finestre delle loro case gran quantità di lumi per contrasegno di allegrezza con il sbaro per molto tempo del canone».

Abridged translation: It is recorded that on 6 May 1699 at 5:15 at night Madame the Duchess gave birth to a Prince named Vittorio Amedeo.
