Xavier Villaurrutia

Mexican poet and playwright whose most famous works are the short theatrical dramas called Autos profanos, compiled in the work Poesía y teatro completos, published in 1953. Along with Salvador Novo, he cofounded the magazine Ulises in 1927. Villaurrutia also founded the first experimental theatre in Mexico. He died at 8 AM on 25 December 1950, aged 47, in Mexico City.

Sy Scholfield cites birth record quoted in Hecho en México by Lolita Bosch (Literatura Random House, 2007), p. 211: "En el libro número 385 del Registro Civil, en la foja 1 13-FTE, hay un acta que dice: «En la Ciudad de México, a las 11 once y diez minutos del día 11 once de abril de 1903 mil novecientos tres, [...] compareció el ciudadano Rafael Villaurrutia, de México, casado, de cuarenta años, comisionista, que vive en la 3. Tercera de Mina número 5 cinco, y presentó vivo al niño JAVIER, que nació en dicha casa el día 27 veintisiete del mes próximo pasado, a las once de la mañana, hijo legítimo suyo y de su esposa la señora Julia González, de Chihuahua, de treinta y dos años, que reside con su esposo».

(In book number 385 of the Civil Registry, on page 1 13-FTE, there is an act that states: "In Mexico City, at 11:10 AM on 11 April 1903, [...] appeared the citizen Rafael Villaurrutia, of Mexico, married, aged forty years, ... who presented the boy JAVIER, who was born in his house on the 27th of last month at eleven o'clock in the morning, legitimate son of him and his wife, Mrs. Julia Gonzalez, of Chihuahua, aged thirty-two, who lives with her husband").
