French popular accordionist; his hit "Les fiancés d'Auvergne" sold 10 millions copies.

His family came from Belgium. As soon as he was four, he began learning to play his instrument with his father Raymond, a professional musician. Acting as a resistant during the second world war, he spent several months at Dachau concentration camp. In 1974, driving his car, he lost his wife Micheline in a road accident.

He has published his memories ("Mon accordeon et moi").

Born 4 days before Alain Mimoun (famous Marathonian), he died some days after him on 10 July 2013. He, himself dreamt of becoming a cyclist racer and every summer he played on stage after the rounds of the Tour de France at balls and dances (for 11 years).
