Belgian Catholic priest known for his social involvement in the working-class districts of Brussels. Nicknamed "the priest of the Marolles", he played an important part, for more than fifty years, in the birth of neighbourhood and defence committees for inhabitants and undocumented migrants in Brussels and in the fight against the destruction of the Marolles. Jacques Van der Biest died in Brussels on 5 May 2016 at age 86.
