Nicolaas van Wijk


Dutch linguist and philanthropist, and from 1913 until his death on 25 March 1941, the first Dutch professor of Slavic languages. In the academic year 1929-1930 Van Wijk was rector of the University of Leiden, and in this role he oversaw the honorary doctorate awarded to Princess Juliana in 1930. He died in Leiden on 25 March 1941.
