Biography
American movie producer of Broadway plays and TV and the owner of TV production companies. After trying his hand in Broadway plays beginning in 1936, he moved onward to the film business in 1945, forming Michael Todd Productions. In 1951 he partnered with Lowell Thomas for Thomas-Todd Productions and became one of the original partners of the Cinerama corporation. Selling his shares in 1953 and becoming partners with TV mogul Joseph M. Schenck, they started the Magna Corporation. Their first production, "Oklahoma" became an instant success but nothing compared to the notoriety and star-studded spectacle of "Around the World in Eighty Days," for which he won an Oscar. Enroute to a dinner of the National Association of Theater Owners in which he would be named "Showman of the Year," his plane crashed in New Mexico and all aboard were killed at 2:05 on 22 March 1958. His plane was named "The Lucky Liz" after his wife, film star Elizabeth Taylor.
He married Taylor in 1957, her third marriage; they had one daughter, Liza.

Source Notes
Date on B.C. in hand, no time, Steinbrecher. Time from Gunther Menzer given from a German magazine "from him."
(Prior information included June 22, 1909 from Nell Botterill via Church of Light PC gives the same date from Art Cohn, "The Nine Lives of Mike Todd." Lyndoe gave 1906 in Predictions 6/1958; Tucker gave 1908, 3:28 AM.). In May 2006, Paul Westran writes: "Mike Todd, according to both Eddie Fisher and his son Michael Todd Jr., actually changed his birth certificate. He could do this because he was a good friend of Hubert Humphrey. His son Michael states that he was born on or around 22 June 1907 not 19 June 1911 as his second false birth certificate states. His first false birth certificate was dated 1909 and was issued “during his marriage to Joan Blondell” after a trip to Minneapolis where Hubert Humphrey was mayor. On his last visit to Minneapolis, for the opening of the film Around the World in 80 Days in 1957, when he was married to Elizabeth Taylor, he obtained a birth certificate giving the 1911 birth year. His son says that his continued friendship with Sen. Humphrey had helped and if Hubert Humphrey had become president, Mike Todd Senior would have ended up younger than Mike Todd Junior. In any event, Mike Todd was married on Valentines Day 1923 to Bertha Freshman, so a 1911 birth is impossible.
