Biography
American poet, non-fiction writer, and teacher, he published his first book of poetry, "Sleep Watch," in 1969. His non-fiction works include a critical memoir of the poet Robert Lowell, his mentor at Harvard University. He has taught at Harvard University and the University of California at Berkeley among others.
