Biography
American homicide who shot his wife's former lover. A young millionaire, he married Evelyn Nesbitt and was tormented by violent jealousy, culminating in the shooting death of Stanford White 6/25/1906.. He was declared "not guilty by reason of insanity" and spent years in and out of asylums.
Thaw died of a heart attack 2/22/1947 (date from his tombstone).

In March 2006, R. Kirk Johnson pointed out a picture online of Thaw's headstone which gave a birth date of February 12, 1871 (at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pis&GRid=1026.&PIgrid=1026&PIcrid=44305&PIpi=2776555&). Previously the date given for this record was February 1, 1871 with the source notes reading as follows: Steinbrecher quotes the date from his obituary, from Ann Loyd, Librarian, City of Pennsylvania. The time of birth could not be found.(PT found a copy of the obit in the New York Times archives online.) Tucker gave 8:00 AM with January12, 1871. NN had same data given as spec. Ellen Wood had 12:15 PM. Wynn stated "No one is sure of the time," in "Your Future." The biography by A. MacKenzie "The Trial of Harry Thaw" had no data.
