French biologist whose work resulted in the birth of the first test tube baby in France on 24 February 1982.
He also was responsible for the first "surrogates" in cattle (1972) and, with his biomedical team, had the first success in France with human in vitro fertilization (1982), freezing human embryos (1986), and IVF through sperm injection (1994).
