Source Notes

Sy Scholfield quotes "John Strachan, 1778-1867" by John L. H. Henderson (University of Toronto Press, 1969), p. 3: "Mrs. Strachan advanced the proposition that her youngest son should be educated for a minister. Her husband, John Strachan the quarrier, objected. The idea was not sensible, and her supporting evidence was less so, that he had been born at noon on the Sunday, at high tide, when the sacrament was being dispensed in the parish church of Aberdeen."
