Biography
Danish princess, the daughter of King Christian V and his queen-consort, Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel (or Hesse-Cassel).
Sophie Hedevig was betrothed three times - first to Johan Georg IV, Elector of Saxony, then Joseph I, Holy Roman Emperor, and finally to her first cousin Carl XII, King of Sweden. However, none of the three marriages suggested for her transpired. The first groom broke the engagement, the second demanded she convert to Catholicism and the third did not wish to marry.
She was a talented portrait painter and interested in music, handicrafts such as ornaments in ivory, and embroidery. She also collected psalm books and various writings.
She died on 13 March 1735, aged 57, in Charlottenborg, Copenhagen.

Sy Scholfield forwarded news report from "Amsterdamse courant," 14 September 1677, p. 2: "Koppenhage den 7 September. Defen namiddagh omtrent 3 uuren is haer Majefteits de Koninginne gelucklijck van een jonge Princes in de kraem gekomen , Waer over men al de Klocken 2 uuren heeft geluyt , en het canon op de wallen 3 mael geloft. De Herpaucken en Trompetten laeten haer op het Slot noch luftigh hooren."
