Duchess of Oldenburg Sophie Charlotte (1913)

Biography

Prussian duchess, nicknamed "Lotte," and best known for her unhappy and well-publicized marriage to Prince Eitel Friedrich, second son of Wilhelm II, German Emperor. The marriage later led to divorce; Sophia Charlotte would remarry a few years later to Harald van Hedemann, a former police officer.

A member of the House of Holstein-Gottorp, she was the only surviving child of Friedrich August II, Grand Duke of Oldenburg by his first wife Princess Elisabeth Anna of Prussia.

Sophia Charlotte died on 29 March 1964 in Westerstede.

Sy Scholfield quotes from Berliner Börsenzeitung, 4 February 1879, p. 1: "Die Erbprinzesstn von Oldenburg ist vor gestern früh von einer Prinzessin glücklich entbunden worden."

(The hereditary princess of Oldenburg was happily delivered yesterday morning of a princess). A time of 6 AM is speculative.
