Biography

American banker and Democratic politician who served as the 40th Governor of Texas from 1969 to 1973, and previously served as the lieutenant governor from 1963 to 1969.

He died on 18 October 2003, aged 91, in Lubbock, Texas. He is interred with his wife, the former Ima Mae Smith (1911-1998), at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.
