German author who lives in Berlin. His autobiography "Das Verhoer" (The Interrogation, 1991) is one of the few contemporary German texts that link Jewish and gay identity. Both in Germany and in the Netherlands, he broke through with his novel "Na een lang rokend zwijgen" (After a long silence fuming. 1992) about his past in the Stasi, the East German secret service. He also published his letters to Gerard Reve, entitled "Het wit in het oog van de tijger" (The white in the eye of the tiger, 1993).
