American attorney and businessperson who worked as a criminal defense attorney and was counsel to the American Civil Liberties Union in the 1950s. His role as a LGBT rights advocate led to the incorporation of the first gay organization, the Mattachine Society. He helped in obtaining a permit for the first gay pride parade in Los Angeles. Selwyn was married and had four children. He enjoyed tennis, music, reading, and travelling. He was a member of Mensa International and the Plato Society at UCLA. Selwyn died at age 90 on 3 February 2016 after battling a long illness.
