Margaret Rhea Seddon


American astronaut who became a trainee in January 1978 after being selected by NASA. She earned her doctorate in 1973 and became a surgeon at the VA Hospital in Memphis. She was one of the crew of the Discovery mission, 04/12/1985 and on board the Columbia, 06/05/1991. A pretty, petite blonde, she is a workaholic with loads of drive and ambition. She has her private pilot license.

She married a NASA pilot, Robert "Hoot" Gibson, a year older than she. They were classmates at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston in January 1978 when they were among 35 candidates (out of 6,000 applicants) selected to train for the program. They married in May 1981. She is scheduled to deliver their first child in July 1982.
