Biography

Swiss composer.

After working for some time on a financial office in Lucerne, in 1810, he devoted himself entirely to music, and studied them first in Zurich and then in Vienna under the direction of music director Johann Christoph Kienlen (1783-1829). After he had taken part in the campaign against the French in 1815, he took a position in Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi's educational institution in Yverdon, but in 1817 moved to Frankfurt on and lived and worked there, with brief interruptions, until his death. "Foundation Schnyder von Wartensee" was founded in 1847 to support artistic and scientific works.

Distinguished by its wealth of melody, clarity and correctness compositions mention the opera Fortunat, the Oratory of time and eternity, and numerous cantatas and songs serene and serious content.

He died on 27 August 1868.
