On 10/31/1975, he and a friend were walking across the street in front of his house about 7:30 PM when they were both struck by a speeding car. Savan was hit so hard that it knocked him out of his shoes. Nothing was broken but he was so badly bruised that he was hospitalized for nine days. His friend was knocked 50 ft further and was badly injured.
