French military surgeon who served throughout the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) and subsequently wrote the book, The Shame of Defeat, 1870-71: A French Army Surgeon in the Franco-Prussian War. He was Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Strasbourg from 1863 to 1870. He died on 7 March 1887, aged 53.
