Italian civil engineer who taught his trade (Bridges and Foundations), conducted experiments assessing the behaviour of reinforced concrete, and designed numerous concrete reinforced concrete bridges, contributing to the elaboration of theories for the analysis of this type of structure. Much of Santarella's fame is still attributed to his publications, manuals of reinforced concrete construction techniques that (thanks to various revisions and updates to the regulations that have happened over time) are still employed. He died in Milan on 7 September 1935.
