Spanish arabist, translator and historian, emeritus professor of Semitic Philology Department of the University of Barcelona and academician of the Royal Academy of Belles Lettres of Barcelona.

He has led the school of historians of Arabic science for more than twenty-five years at the Faculty of Philology, and has specialized in archaeoastronomy of Al Andalus and the Maghreb, Islamic studies and Hebrew studies. He is a member of various national and international academic institutions, he was vice president of the Académie Internationale de Histoire des Sciences. In 1981 he entered the Royal Academy.

He translated a lot of astrological books from Arabic language into Spanish and modern languages.

In 2019 he published the book Astronomy and Astrology in Al-Andalus and the Maghrib.
