Italian anthropologist, who studied fossil forms and conformations and the particular characteristics of living races whose morphology he theorised as predominantly determined by the natural environment. His books include Sul significato della platicefalia con speciale considerazione della razza di Neanderthal (On the meaning of platicephaly with special consideration of Neanderthals, 1910-1911), L'altezza del cranio in America (The length of the skull in America, 1912-1913) and Meccanismo funzionale, genesi e significato filetico dell'occhio cosiddetto "mongolico" (Functional mechanism, genetic and phetical meaning of the so-called "Mongolian" eye, 1946). He was the director of the section of anthropology in the Enciclopedia Italiana (Italian Encyclopedia). He died in Florence on 7 May 1960, aged 81.
