Biography
French doctor, art collector and patron of the arts.
As a physician, he specialized in the internal organs of the stomach, liver and kidney, and was a renowned histologist. He published several treatises on medical therapy.
His famous patients included the writers Auguste de Villiers de l'Isle-Adam, Paul Bourget and Stéphane Mallarmé. Octave Mirbeau dedicated his 1913 novel Dingo in gratitude to the doctor, "Au Professeur Albert Robin". In addition, the physician Adrien Proust, the father of the writer Marcel Proust, belonged to his circle of friends. Robin frequented the salon of art collector Marguerite Charpentier and was friends with the courtesans Méry Laurent and Liane de Pougy.
Robin put together a collection of Impressionist art and acquired several works by Édouard Manet. He bequeathed the core of his collection to the Musée des Beaux-Arts in his hometown of Dijon.
Albert Robin died on 24 September 1928 in Castel-Montigny, aged 81.
