Source Notes

Isaac Starkman on the Astro.com forum posted the following: "Patrick Marnham in his book "Dreaming with his eyes open: a life of Diego Rivera": "The civil document held in the town hall records the birth on December 8, a Wednesday, at 7.30 in the evening".

Translation: His mother Mary, his aunt Cesarea and civil documents mention 8 December 1886 at 19.30 o'clock as his date of birth, i.e. the day of celebration of the Immaculate Conception. However, the Church documents of Guanajuato hold a record of his baptism, stating that little Diego María Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez actually saw the light of day on 13 December.

Previously this record had 8 Dec. with a time of 11pm rated C with the following source notes:

LMR quotes Bertram Wolfe, "Diego Rivera." The biography describes his mom's earlier three stillbirths, then states that on his day her sister had run errands all day in preparation, as her labor had begun. Her sister made a last trip to the apothecary, and when his dad came home, there were twin boys. No time stated, late day or early evening is implied.

Rivera's autobiography, "My Art, My Life," (1960, p.19) states, "A twin brother and I were born on the night of December 8, 1886 . . . I, the older and my brother a few minutes later." His twin died at age two.

Biography: Pete Hamill, "Diego Rivera," 2000.
