Biography

American woman who was widowed twice: on 11 April, 1984 (first husband's death, age 55), and in 1996 (second husband's death, age 79). She also suffered the loss of her only daughter to suicide on 26 June, 1992 (age 23). She had already lost her sister and father in 1975, and her mother in 1979. Remarkably for someone who'd undergone so much loss and grief, she lived a relatively untormented life until her own death (via complications of lung cancer) on 14 May, 2014 at age 84. Her only surviving family is her son.

She was a stutterer growing up, which was a chronic source of frustration for her. She also suffered from chronic migraine headaches throughout her life. Although she did not finish high school, she went on to work as an office administrator at Pratt Institute in New York in the 1950s. By all accounts, she was naturally asexual (i.e., lacked interest in sex, though not romance), and has said she was a “professional virgin” when she met and married her first husband in 1964. Personality-wise, she was open-minded and accepting, and very solicitous and giving. She was also high strung and prone to worry.
