German physician who became head of the Interior Department of the Bergmannsheil in Bochum in 1920. There, research on pneumoconiosis (black lung disease) in coal miners was the focus of his scientific work. His 1931 work on the diagnosis and assessment of silicosis paved the way for modern silicosis research.
He died in 1956.
