Biography

Nicaraguan writer, journalist, politician and lawyer who served as Vice President of Nicaragua from 10 January 1985 until 25 April 1990, during the first term of President Daniel Ortega. He became the first Central American to win the Cervantes Prize, the most prestigious literary prize in the Spanish-speaking world, on 16 November 2017.

He married his wife, Gertrudis "Tulita" Guerrero Mayorga, in 1964, and they have three children.
